Nostr Terms

Nostr: Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays - the protocol

NIP: Nostr Implementation Possibility - protocol standards

Relay: Server that stores and forwards Nostr messages

Client: Application for accessing Nostr (like Nostria)

Event: Any action or message on Nostr

Kind: Type of event (1=post, 4=DM, etc.)

Keys & Identity

Public Key (npub): Your identifier, safe to share

Private Key (nsec): Your password, never share

Keypair: Public + private key together

NIP-05: DNS-based verification identifier

Lightning Address: Payment identifier for tips

Post/Note: Public message on Nostr

DM: Direct message, encrypted

Repost: Sharing someone's post

Quote: Repost with added commentary

Reaction: Like or emoji response

Zap: Bitcoin tip via Lightning

Follow: Subscribe to someone's posts

Follower: Someone who follows you

Mention: Tagging someone in a post

Hashtag: Topical label (#topic)
